What to expect on the day:

Join us for a guided Fungi Walk in the heart of the South Downs, where we’ll explore the fascinating, diverse, and delicious world of wild fungi.

Led by an experienced forager and fungi specialist, this course teaches you how to safely identify edible mushrooms, avoid poisonous lookalikes, and forage respectfully and sustainably. Learn how to identify common edible mushrooms & their toxic lookalikes, which are the best habitats and conditions for different species. Get familiar with key identification features (gills, cap, stem, spore prints, etc.) and how to differentiate between the families. Learn the responsible and legal foraging practices.

Whether you’re a curious beginner or an aspiring wild food expert, this is the perfect introduction to Britain’s most intriguing wild food. Walk through woodlands, hedgerows and meadows with our instructors, learning about the edible world that surrounds you, unlock the magic of mycelium, find out about how incredible foraging is, and notice more in your environment than ever before.

Gain a newfound appreciation for your environment by learning how to identify edible plants, fungi and berries on your own, and how to incorporate them into your routines. We will be stopping frequently to analyse the plants and fungi we find, often staying within 1-2 miles in total. You do not have to venture far to discover amazing wild food!

Forage for your tasters with the guidance of our experts, picking delicious wild delicacies to cook up on the day. Learn how to prepare wild food safely and which flavours pair best. Enjoy the tasters overlooking the gorgeous view of the South Downs.
